Shumpis Found Guilty of Rape

ALBANY, NY – Albany County District Attorney P. David Soares announced the guilty verdict by a jury of deliberation, of BRIAN SHUMPIS, 27 of Cohoes. SHUMPIS was found guilty of Rape in the 2nd  Degree, a Class “D” Felony and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

The verdict comes after SHUMPIS was accused of engaging in sexual intercourse with a minor under the age of fifteen years, between July 3 and July 4, 2005 at his Cohoes home.

District Attorney Soares stated, “Brian Shumpis was a pedophile who thought he could get away with a horrific crime. What he did not count on was the courage of his victim. The people of Albany County can have some measure of relief that this man will be behind bars.”

Assistant District Attorney David Ehrlich added, “Shumpis’ rape subjected his victim to a horrific act, but also tore apart a family. With this verdict, this brave young girl and her family can start putting their lives back together.”

BRIAN SHUMPIS faces a minimum of 2 1/3 and a maximum of 7 years in prison. Sentencing will be held on September 28th, 2006 in front of the Honorable Daniel Lamont.
