Flores Pleas to Rape, DNA Connects Defendant to Two Cases

ALBANY, NY –District Attorney P. David Soares today announced the plea in People v.  FELIPE DeJESUS-FLORES, 16, of Albany, NY.  FLORES has plead to (2) Felony counts including Rape in the First Degree, a Class “B” Violent Felony, and Burglary in the Second Degree, a Class “C” Felony.  He faces a term of 25 years in State Prison.

FLORES admitted that on the 10 th of December 2005, in Albany, NY, that he attacked robbed and raped a young woman.  In addition, FLORES, plead to a new indictment, handed down by the Grand Jury in August to Burglary in the 2nd Degree.  This offense took place on Sheridan Avenue in Albany, NY.  In that case, the defendant had broken a window to attack and rob a woman, he was unable to attack the woman, however a burglary took place.  The defendant injured himself on the broken window, and left behind his blood. Through DNA testing, FLORES was connected to this earlier case.

DA Soares noted the fine and meticulous investigative work of the Albany Police Department and renewed call on the expansion of the existing DNA index offenses.

“This will ensure that criminals are in the system at the outset of their criminal careers, so that those who choose to re-offend will be identified more readily and with greater certainty, thus cutting short future criminal activity.”  Soares continued, “FLORES stalked this young victim and brought trauma and suffering to a woman’s life that will never be forgotten, the defendant is a violent sexual predator who is now off our streets.”

At the time of his arrest, Law Enforcement did not know FLORES age, the defendant was order a Bone Scan to determine his age.  FLORES is an illegal immigrant from Mexico. 

The Defendant will be sentenced on October 17th, 2006 in front of the Honorable Stephen Herrick.
