Daughter Indicted for Death of Mother

ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that CAROL ADAMS, 47, of Albany, NY, was indicted by the Grand Jury on a sealed indictment consisting of three counts: (1) count of Manslaughter in the Second Degree, a Class “C” Felony, (1) count of Criminally Negligent Homicide, a Class “E” Felony and (1) count of Endangering the Welfare of a Vulnerable Elderly Person in the First Degree, a Class “D” Felony. ADAMS faces 15 years in prison.

“This tragic death could have easily been avoided with just one phone call, and sadly this case exemplifies and trend that is all too common. Elder abuse is a crime and we must do more to protect some of our societies most vulnerably citizens,” commented DA Soares.

The indictment alleges that for several weeks ending on approximately January 16, 2008, at 18 Crestwood Court in the City of Albany, ADAMS recklessly caused the death of her mother. ADAMS agreed to provide care to her mother and then failed to adequately do so, resulting in profound malnutrition.

Homicide and Special Victims Bureau Chief Dave Rossi is handling the prosecution of this case.
