Office of the District Attorney P. David Soares SUDA Sentenced to 3 ½ to 7 Years in State Prison for Manslaughter ALBANY , NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that SASIANO SUDA, 40, of 841 Western Avenue, Albany, NY, was sentenced to 3 ½ to 7 years in state prison before the Honorable Dan Lamont. SUDA plead guilty to one count of Manslaughter in the 2 nd degree and one count of Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Alcohol as a Misdemeanor. On November 17, 2006 at approximately 8:37 AM, SUDA was traveling along Route 20 in Guilderland, at a speed well in excess of the posted speed limit, when he crashed his car into another vehicle turning into the entrance of Crossgates Mall. SUDA refused an initial test of his blood alcohol content. However, the Guilderland Police obtained a court order and SUDA’s BAC was determined to be 0.15% (roughly twice the legal limit) approximately 3 hours after the crash. As a result of the crash, SUDA’s passenger, Joseph K. Albert, died and injuries were sustained by the driver of the other vehicle. SUDA faces possible deportation after serving the duration of the sentence handed down today. “The sentence imposed on the defendant today is a reminder to everyone that DWI crimes are not merely ‘accidents’ and that those who commit these crimes will continue to face severe penalties,” commented DA Soares. “It is my hope that the conclusion of this case today will help bring about the healing process and closure necessary for the two families whose lives have been forever changed by the incidents of that November morning.” ADA Mary Tanner-Richter from the Major Offense Unit handled the prosecution of this case.
