Office of the District Attorney P. David Soares Fourth Defendant in Robbery Case Pleads Guilty, ALBANY , NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that RICHARD BEATTY, 17, of Albany, NY, plead guilty to (1) count of Robbery in the 2nd Degree in front of the Honorable Thomas Breslin yesterday evening. BEATTY faces up to five years in prison with three years of post release supervision. On November 11, 2006 at approximately 9:30 p.m. in the vicinity of Glenwood Street in the City of Albany, BEATTY along with three co-defendants, Jonathan Hammonds, and two juvenile offenders, forcibly stole property from a victim unknown to them on his way to work. The four defendants assaulted the victim by threatening him with a knife and punching him, and stole numerous items including a cell phone, an iPod and other items of personal property. “Citizens of our county should be able to travel freely throughout Albany without being accosted,” commented DA Soares. “There is a price to pay if you choose to travel down this path.” BEATTY will be sentenced on June 26, 2007. Hammond plead guilty to Attempted Robbery in the 2 nd Degree and faces up to two years in prison with three years of post release supervision. He will be sentenced on May 18, 2007. The two juvenile offenders plead guilty to Robbery in the 2 nd Degree and face one to three years in a juvenile detention facility. They will both be sentenced in May.
