Manny McKinney Pleads Guilty, Agrees to Cooperate with Police

ALBANY , NY –  District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that MANNY MCKINNEY, 31 of Fayetteville, NC, plead guilty  to Manslaughter in the 1st Degree. In the terms of the plea, MCKINNEY faces an 18 year determinant sentence and is required to cooperate with police in the recovery of the victim.

The indictment alleges that in the first week of October 2005 at the residence of Joe Murphy, 67, in Albany, NY, MCKINNEY hit the victim in the head with the intent to cause serious physical injury, causing his death.

DA Soares noted that, “The city of Albany lost one of its most committed community minded neighborhood activists. I, personally, have missed seeing him cleaning and improving West Hill and McPherson Terrace. I hope this plea will bring about the recovery of Mr. Murphy and help bring closure to his friends and family.”

MCKINNEY is currently cooperating with police in finding the victim’s remains.

Dave Rossi of the Homicide Unit is handling the prosecution of this case.
