Office of the District Attorney P. David Soares Cancer Fraudster Charged on 2 Counts Faces up to 7 Years ALBANY , NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that CANDICE LAMBERT, 41, of Bedford , New Hampshire , has been charged with one count of Grand Larceny in the 3 rd Degree and one count of Scheme to Defraud in the 1 st Degree. If found guilty on both counts she faces a term in state prison of 2 1/3 rd to 7 years. LAMBERT is accused of falsely claiming that she was a victim of cancer and using this false claim to justify a disability pension, donated sick time from her colleagues at the Cohoes School District , and benefits from fundraisers held by her students. LAMBERT was arrested by members of the Cohoes Police Department following a news report about her having to retire from the Bedford School District due to her battle with cancer in her home in New Hampshire . The report raised eyebrows because at the time, she was on permanent disability from the Cohoes School District having claimed that she was a cancer victim. After an investigation by the Cohoes Police in cooperation with the White Collar Crime Unit of the Office of the District Attorney, she was charged with unlawfully benefiting from her fraudulent claim of being a victim of this disease. She is also under investigation in New Hampshire . “Is nothing sacred?” DA Soares asked. “For a person in a position of authority to abuse the empathy of her colleagues and students is despicable,” Soares added.Back to Press Releases For further information contact: Rachel McEneny
