Office of the District Attorney P. David Soares Arthur Jackson Gets 6 Years
ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that ARTHUR JACKSON, 27, of 480 Washington Avenue, Albany, NY was sentenced to up to six years for three counts including criminal possession of a firearm in the 4 th degree, criminal possession of a loaded firearm in the 3 rd degree, and criminal possession of a defaced weapon in the 3 rd degree by the Honorable Joseph C. Teresi. The arrest came as the result of a team of officers responding to a reported sighting of a drug transaction where one of the participants was seen carrying a weapon. When APD Officers showed up at the scene on September 6, 2004 at 44 West Street, Albany, they approached a suspect matching the description provided by the 911 caller. At that point, JACKSON took flight on foot and was pursued by uniformed officers. During the chase, JACKSON threw away a handgun. He was subsequently arrested. The gun was recovered and found to be both loaded and defaced. District Attorney Soares said that the attempt by the defendant to rid himself of the weapon prior to his arrest showed that the message regarding the tough treatment of gun crimes is getting out. “If you are arrested possessing a weapon, especially a loaded weapon, especially a defaced loaded weapon, you are going to do some hard time” he said. Obviously, JACKSON’s attempt to rid himself of the weapon showed that this message is hitting the streets” he added. Back to Press Releases For further information contact: Richard Arthur
