Guilty Verdict in Violent Stabbing Case


  

  

ALBANY, NY - District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that NICOLAS MENDEZ, 27, of Albany, was found guilty after a jury trial of (1) Count of Assault in the First Second Degree, a Class B Violent Felony, before the Honorable Andra Ackerman in Albany County Court yesterday afternoon.

On September 12, 2020, at approximately 7:30 P.M., at 927 Mercer Street in the City of Albany, MENDEZ intentionally stabbed a woman that was known to him multiple times in the face and neck. People were able to intervene and call for help. Members of the Albany Police Department arrested MENDEZ at the scene. The victim needed surgery and will have lifelong impairments and nerve damage from the attack.

The jury acquitted MENDEZ of Attempted Murder.

MENDEZ faces up to 25 Years to Life in State Prison when sentenced on February 4, 2022. 


Assistant District Attorney Michael Shanley is handling the prosecution of this case.
