Sentencing After Illegal Weapon Possession Trial

ALBANY, NY –  District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that DEAUNTTA MALLOY, 35, of Albany, was sentenced to (10) years in State Prison, to be followed by (5) years of Post-Release Supervision, before Honorable Roger D. McDonough in Albany County Court this morning. MALLOY was previously found guilty after a jury trial of (1) Count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class C Violent Felony.

The jury found that on August 21, 2019, MALLOY was in illegal possession of a loaded Lorcin 9mm semi-automatic handgun after members of the Albany Police Department conducted a warranted search of his residence on Hamilton Street. The jury also acquitted MALLOY of felony marijuana possession charges.

Assistant District Attorney Megan Spillane of the Street Crimes Unit handled the prosecution of this case.
