Albany Murder Indictment Unsealed

ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that DARIUS COKELY, 21, of Albany, was arraigned before Honorable Andra Ackerman in Albany County Court on August 6, 2021, in relation to a March 2020 homicide that took place on Madison Avenue in the City of Albany.

An indictment was unsealed on Friday August 6, 2021, after an Albany County Grand Jury previously returned charges of (1) Count of Murder in the Second Degree, a Class A-I Felony, against COKELY, alleging that on March, 18, 2020, at approximately 4:45 P.M., in the area of 550 Madison Avenue in the City of Albany, COKELY intentionally caused the death of Maurice Skeen. The investigation was led by detectives in the Albany Police Department.

COKELY pleaded not guilty to the charges and was remanded in to custody without bail.

No new appearance dates have been scheduled by the Court at this time.

Senior Assistant District Attorney Joseph Brucato and Assistant District Attorney Emily Schultz are handling the prosecution of this case.
