Where Woman and Pets Were Abused

ALBANY, NY - Albany County District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that ZECHARIAH SQUIRES, 30, of Coeymans, was arraigned on (1) Count of Kidnapping in the Second Degree, a Class B Violent Felony, (1) Count of Criminal Sexual Act in the First Degree, a Class B Violent Felony, (1) Count of Assault in the Second Degree, a Class D Violent Felony, (1) Count of Strangulation in the Second Degree, a Class D Violent Felony, (1) Count of Assault in the Third Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor, and (2) Counts of Torturing or Injuring Animals, as Misdemeanors under NYS Agriculture and Markets Law 353, this morning before the Honorable William A. Carter in Albany County Court.

An Albany County Grand Jury returned an indictment this week alleging that on or about August 18, 2020, at a residence in the Town of Coeymans, SQUIRES did allegedly injure a female that was known to him by physically assaulting her, forcing her to ingest a drug, and forcing her to perform a sexual act. SQUIRES also prevented the woman from leaving the scene by threatening her with deadly physical force. During the attack, SQUIRES allegedly placed his knee on the neck of a dog and punched the animal several times in the head, as well as allegedly held a kitten by the neck and twisted it. The animals were injured but survived the alleged assault.

SQUIRES pleaded not guilty to the charges and was remanded by the Court today. No new appearance dates have been scheduled at this time.
