Men Arraigned in Gun Violence Cases

ALBANY, NY -  District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that two men were arraigned today in Albany County Court for separate cases involving gun violence incidents in Albany County.

KYANTE SEALEY, 20, of Albany, was arraigned on (3) Counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, each Class C Armed Violent Felonies, and (1) Count of Attempted Assault in the First Degree, a Class Violent C Felony, before the Honorable Andra Ackerman in Albany County Court this morning.

An Albany County Grand Jury returned an indictment this week alleging that on April 12, 2020, at approximately 11:50 AM, in the area of Orange Street and Lexington Avenue, in the City of Albany, SEALEY was in illegal possession of a loaded firearm.  The Grand Jury indictment also alleges that on April 15, 2020, at approximately 11:05 AM, in the area of 7 Lexington Avenue, in the City of Albany, SEALEY was again allegedly in illegal possession of a firearm when he shot at a moving vehicle. No injuries were reported during the incidents.

The following day on April 16, 2020 at approximately 5:30 PM, in the area of 228 Second Street, in the City of Albany, SEALEY was taken into custody by the Albany Police Department during a traffic stop. During the stop, SEALEY was allegedly found to be in illegal possession of a loaded .22 caliber revolver which was concealed in his pants pocket. SEALEY was remanded at that time and has been in custody since April 16, 2020.

At the time of that arrest, SEALEY was out on bail in relation to an August 26, 2019 shooting in which he allegedly shot a man in his leg in the area of South Pearl and Westerlo Streets. SEALEY was arrested for that shooting on October 15, 2019 and charged for alleged his role in the incident. Bail was set at $50,000 and SEALEY was subsequently released. A Grand Jury previously returned charges of felony assault and criminal possession of a weapon charges against SEALEY in relation to the August 2019 shooting and that separate case remains open and pending in Albany County Court.

SEALEY pleaded not guilty today to all charges alleged in the indictment brought this week and remains in custody. No new appearances in this case have been scheduled by the Court.

Assistant District Attorney David Szalda is handling the prosecution of this case.
