Guilty Pleas This Week in Albany County Court

 

 

ALBANY, NY -   District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that several cases of note took place in the Albany County Judicial Center this week.


SHAKEEM BUIE, 24, of Albany pleaded guilty to (1) Count of Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class D Armed Felony, before the Honorable William A. Carter in Albany County Court on Tuesday August 25, 2020. On November 21, 2019, the Colonie Police Department conducted a search warrant at a hotel room at the Motel 6 at 1600 Central Avenue and found BUIE to be in illegal possession of a loaded .9mm Ruger handgun. BUIE was taken into custody at the appearance and faces (3) years in State Prison, to be followed by (3) years of Post-Release Supervision when sentenced in October, 2020. Assistant District Attorney Megan Spillane of the Street Crimes Unit is prosecuting this case.


In a separate case, ANTHONY AUNCHMAN, 21, of Schenectady, pleaded guilty to (1) Count of Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, as a Class C Violent Armed Felony, before the Honorable Roger D. McDonough in Albany County Supreme Court this afternoon. On December 7, 2019, AUNCHMAN brought an illegally possessed sawed off shotgun to the College of Siena campus and accidentally discharged the shotgun in a car, shattering a window. An investigation by the Colonie Police Department led to AUNCHMAN’S arrest and the recovery of the shotgun from his home in Schenectady. AUNCHMAN was taken into custody at the appearance and faces (5) years in State Prison, to be followed by (3) years of Post-Release Supervision when sentenced on October 9, 2020. Assistant District Attorney Megan Spillane of the Street Crimes Unit is prosecuting this case.

 

Additionally, STANFORD BARKER, 25, of Albany, pleaded guilty to (1) Count of Assault in the Second Degree, a Class D Violent Felony, before the Honorable Roger D. McDonough in Albany County Supreme Court this afternoon. On April 2, 2020, at approximately 8:02 A.M., BARKER stabbed a victim at the Grand Deli located at 145 Madison Avenue in the City of Albany. The victim survived after receiving emergency surgery for injuries to his abdomen. BARKER faces (5) years in State Prison, to be followed by (3) years of Post-Release Supervision, when sentenced on October 9, 2020. Assistant District Attorney Joseph Brucato of the Major Crimes Unit is prosecuting this case.


Also, a 17-year-old male pleaded guilty to a single count indictment of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a class C Armed Violent Felony, before Judge Jennifer Sober in the Albany County Youth Part Court this afternoon. On September 19, 2019, an investigation being conducted by the Albany Police Department found the individual with a loaded .45 caliber Highpoint pistol illegally possessed in the waistband of his pants at approximately 11:45 A.M., in the area of 1 Harriet Myers Muse in the City of Albany. The individual faces up to (5) years in State Prison when sentenced on October 22, 2020. Due to his age, his name is not permitted to be released publicly. Assistant District Attorney Michael Shanley of the Major Crimes Unit is prosecuting this case.
