 Guilty Pleas in Barbershop Robbery Case



 

ALBANY, NY -  District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that TYREEK JAMES, 23, and OMARI WILLIAMS, 25, both of Brooklyn, each pleaded guilty to charges related to an August 2019 daytime armed robbery of barbershop in the City of Albany. 


On August 8, 2019 at approximately 1:00 p.m., both JAMES and WILLIAMS entered Ritmo’s Barbershop located at 259 New Scotland Avenue in the City of Albany while armed with what appeared to be a handgun. While inside, both men proceeded to forcibly steal property from the owner and customers inside the business, including a vehicle which belonged to a customer. No injuries were reported during the incident. Police were able to track the vehicle and located the pair in the City of Schenectady where they were taken into custody.


WILIAMS pleaded guilty to (1) Count of Robbery in the Second Degree, a Class C Violent Felony, before the Honorable Thomas A. Breslin in Albany County Court this morning. WILLIAMS faces 6 years in State Prison, to be followed by 5 years of Post-Release Supervision, when sentenced on April 9, 2020.


JAMES pleaded guilty to (1) Count of Robbery in the Second Degree, a Class C Violent Felony, before the Honorable Thomas A. Breslin in Albany County Court yesterday. JAMES faces up to 5 years in State Prison, to be followed by 5 years of Post-Release Supervision, when sentenced on April 9, 2020.
