 20 Years to Life for Cohoes Bike Path Murder



   



ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that THOMAS SLIVIENSKI, 23, of Watervliet, was sentenced to an indeterminate term of 20 Years to Life in State Prison for his role in the November 2018 murder of Johni Dunia. SLIVIENSKI was also sentenced to a determinate term of 15 Years for illegally possessing the weapon used in the crime, which was set to run concurrent by the Honorable Peter A. Lynch in Albany County Supreme Court this morning.

On September 27, 2019, SLIVIENSKI was found guilty of (1) Count of Murder in the Second Degree, a Class A-I Felony, and (1) Count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class C Armed Violent Felony.

After hearing testimony and reviewing evidence during trial, the jury concluded that on November 16, 2018, at approximately 10:05 P.M., while on the Mohawk Hudson Bikeway in the area of George Street in the City of Cohoes, SLIVIENSKI intentionally caused the death of Johni Dunia by means of shooting him with an illegally possessed gun.

Assistant District Attorney David Szalda and Chief Assistant District Attorney David Rossi prosecuted this case.
