   Indictment in Colonie

“Grandparent Scam” Case



                           


ALBANY, NY -  District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that KELVIN PICHARDO, 23, of Bronx, NY, was indicted by an Albany County Grand Jury on (1) Count Grand Larceny in the Third Degree as a Hate Crime, a Class C Felony, and (1) Count of Attempted Grand Larceny in the Third Degree as a Hate Crime, a Class D Felony, for his alleged role in a local “Grandparent Scam.”


The indictment alleges that on September 19, 2019, while at a location on Sand Creek Road in the Town of Colonie, PICHARDO stole currency in excess of $3,000 from a person over the age of 60, and attempted to do the same on September 25, 2019 at a residence on Broderick Street Town of Colonie.


PICHARDO is scheduled to appear for arraignment in Albany County Supreme Court on Friday, November 15, 2019. Copies of the indictment will be available after the arraignment.


Assistant District Attorney Benjamin Mastaitis of the Financial Crimes Unit is handling the prosecution of this case.
