A Guide to the Office

Jobs/Internships

The Albany County District Attorney’s Office is one of the busiest prosecutor's offices in Upstate New York, serving thousands of residents in the ethnically and culturally diverse Albany County, New York.   Led by District Attorney P. David Soares, the office is a partner with the Albany Community and other law enforcement agencies.
Each year over hundreds of graduates from law schools representing all regions across the nation apply for a limited number of positions.

The District Attorney has committed his legal career to public service and considers it an honor to serve in his capacity.  He is a demonstrative advocate of a career as a public servant and expects attorneys who work with the office to view the profession in the same regard.  Applicants should demonstrate a sound work ethic, a willingness to embrace challenge in an environment that is time-consuming and deadline oriented.  New assistant district attorneys can expect to fully participate in every aspect of investigating and prosecuting crime up to and including presenting a case to a judge and jury. Compensation in salary and benefits is competitive and new assistants will have the benefit of courtroom experience early in their career.

Application Process:

Interested applicants should forward a cover letter, resume, writing sample and statement of interest.  Your statement of interest should illustrate your reason for seeking a position in public service with our office as well as information about your academic experience both inside and outside of the classroom.  Once we have received your information we will review it to determine advancement to the next phase.  The following phase includes Executive Interviews, which could be with an individual or a panel of two or more.  The final phase is an interview with District Attorney David Soares.

Your application, cover letter, resume, writing sample and statement of interest should be mailed to the attention of:
