Operation Impact III OverviewStrategy for Reducing Gun Related Crimes in Albany’s High Crime Divisions The Office of the Albany County District Attorney and the Albany Police Department are teaming up in a cooperative effort to reduce gun crimes on the streets of Albany. In addition, the Albany County Sheriff’s Department, New York State Police, New York State Division of Parole, New York State Division of Probation and Correctional Alternatives, ATF and FBI will be participating in this program. The Albany IMPACT III Consortium strategy for reducing gun related crimes will take a multi-faceted approach including:
Each of these strategies relies heavily upon the gathering, analysis, and dissemination of information and intelligence. Goal and Objectives The goal of the Albany IMPACT Task Force is to substantially reduce gun related crimes in the city of Albany by:
The overall strategic initiative will be geographic in design, taking the IMPACT zones block by block to investigate, interdict, and prevent gun related crimes, and then to stabilize and maintain the areas with long term support efforts involving the Albany Police Department, Albany County District Attorney’s Office, IMPACT consortium agencies, community members, and appropriate agencies and organizations. In support of the overall effort, crime in the entire city will be mapped, analyzed, and monitored to determine trends, possible spatial displacement, and “hot spots”. Likewise, information and intelligence will be similarly analyzed to determine gang members, organized criminal groups, individual criminal targets, crime locations, and method displacement. The information and analysis described above will be disseminated to IMPACT Consortium members, in order to develop short term strategic responses to crime trends, prosecutorial initiatives, community-based intervention, coordinated initiatives and investigations, and long term planning for maintenance and stabilization. These daily, weekly, and monthly strategies, as well as identification of individuals, groups, and crime locations will provide consistency and coordination of efforts, while allowing flexibility to address issues as they are identified. |
