Appeals Unit

The Appeals Unit consists of three attorneys and argues over 500 post verdict cases annually before the Appellate Division – 3rd Department in the NYS Court of Appeals.

The Unit assists the prosecuting attorneys by providing legal research in pretrial matters, suppression hearings and in the course of a trial, this Unit is also responsible for responding to all post verdict motions.

Assistant District Attorney Chris Horn, Appeals Unit

Christopher D. Horn has been an active member of the Albany County District Attorney’s Office for the past twelve years. During the beginning of his career, Horn distinguished himself by participating in the Legal Lives program where 5th graders are introduced to the legal system in hopes of producing responsible life decisions. He assisted in the Annual Budget Process, as well as supporting the Albany County Department of Information Services.
 
Horn received his Bachelor of Arts in 1989 from Union College and his Juris Doctor Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University in 1993. After graduating, Horn joined the Albany County District Attorney’s Office in 1994 as an Assistant District Attorney in the Appeals Bureau. During this time he also assisted in the Police Court conducting preliminary hearings and misdemeanor trials. Horn was appointed to the position of Appellate Bureau chief in 2001.
 
Christopher Horn currently runs the Legal Unit Affairs in which he is responsible for advising and supporting more than 30 Assistant District Attorneys throughout the office, as well as managing and assigning the approximately 100 appellate briefs filed by the bureau annually.
