Sentencing for Woman

Who Stole from Senior Citizen

ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that CHRISTINA YERRY, 44, of Watervliet, was sentenced to 2 to 6 years in State Prison before the Honorable Roger McDonough in Albany County Court this morning.

On January 16, 2015, YERRY pleaded guilty to (1) Count of Attempted Grand Larceny in the Second Degree, a Class D Felony.

In 2009, YERRY, a longtime family friend of the 72 year old victim, did open an unauthorized PO Box in the victim’s name in the City of Watervliet.  YERRY then re-directed the victim’s Social Security, retirement, and annuity settlement payment checks to this unauthorized PO Box.  YERRY then forged the checks and cashed them at a local bank.

The scheme was uncovered after family members of the victim reported their suspicions to law enforcement.

YERRY was also ordered to pay approximately $195,744.65 in restitution to the victim in the case, $50,000.00 of which was paid today.

Assistant District Attorney Jessica Blain-Lewis of the Financial Crimes Unit prosecuted this case.
