  Driver Sentenced in Illegal Drug 

Possession Case


ALBANY, NY - District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that SIMON GORIS, 50, of Albany, was sentenced to 20 years in State Prison, to be followed by 5 years of Post- Release Supervision, before the Honorable William A. Carter in Albany County Court this morning.

On February 7, 2019, GORIS was found guilty after a bench trial of (1) Count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the First Degree, a Class A-I Drug Felony, (1) Count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a Class B Drug Felony, and (1) Count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class C Armed Violent Felony.

The Court found that on January 14, 2018, at approximately 3:23 AM, while on Interstate 87 in the Village of Ravena, GORIS knowingly and unlawfully possessed over eight ounces of a narcotic drug with the intent to sell it and also illegally possessed a loaded firearm. Specifically, on the above stated date, time, and location, officers of the New York State Police initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in which GORIS was the driver. Further investigation discovered GORIS to be in illegal possession of approximately 900 grams of cocaine and a loaded handgun.

Assistant District Attorney Stephen Lydon of the Street Crimes Unit handled the prosecution of this case.
