Sentencing in Violent Colonie Gang Assault





ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that SKYLAR WEST, 19, of Green Island, was sentenced to 10 years in State Prison, to be followed by 5 years of Post Release Supervision before the Honorable Peter A. Lynch in Albany County Court this morning. This sentence will run consecutive to a 1 to 3 year sentence being served for a Drug Court violation.

On February 5, 2018, WEST pleaded guilty to (1) Count of Gang Assault in the First Degree, a Class B Violent Felony.

On July 14, 2017, at approximately 10:15 PM in in the Town of Colonie, WEST, acting in concert with six other men, caused serious physical injury to a person who was known to him. As the victim attempted to flee the scene, WEST and the others caught and violently beat the victim with BB guns, their fists, and feet, resulting in fractures to the victim’s nose, orbital bone, and spine. The victim was also stabbed. WEST later confessed to this crime on Facebook to a person who was known to him. At the time of the incident WEST was a Drug Court participant from a previous unrelated charge.

The other six co-defendants were not able to be identified. 

Assistant District Attorney Joseph Brucato of the Major Crimes Unit handled the prosecution of this case.
