Parolee Pleads Guilty in Hit and Run Fatality 

in Washington Park





ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that JOSE MARTINEZ, 30, of Albany, pleaded guilty to (1) Count of Leaving the Scene of an Incident Which Results in Death Without Reporting, a Class D Felony, before the Honorable Frank Milano in Albany County Court this morning.

On February 4, 2017, at approximately 4:00 A.M., MARTINEZ drove recklessly in the area of Washington Park in the City of Albany and caused the death of another person by crashing into them, then fleeing the scene. Following an investigation by members of the Albany Police Department, MARTINEZ was arrested.

At the time of the incident MARTINEZ was on Parole for an unrelated drug sale conviction from 2015.

MARTINEZ faces 2 to 6 years in State Prison when sentenced on February 21, 2018. This sentence will run consecutive to the term imposed by his 2015 felony. MARTINEZ has been remanded until his sentencing date.

Assistant District Attorney Michael Shanley of the Vehicular Crimes Unit is prosecuting this case.
