Ex-Treasurer of Guilderland

Teacher’s Association Sentenced

ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that BRENDA MCCLAINE, 39, of Albany, was sentenced to 6 months in Albany County Correctional Facility, to be followed by 5 years of Felony Probation, before the Honorable Stephen W. Herrick in Albany County Court this morning.

On September 9, 2014, MCCLAINE pleaded guilty to (1) Count of Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, a Class D Felony.

Between August 13, 2012 and October 28, 2013, MCCLAINE stole $100,382.50 from the Guilderland Teacher’s Association.  At the time MCCLAINE was a treasurer for the agency, and she never had authority to take the money.  MCCLAINE forged the Association president’s name on checks and also collected dues from members of the Association before she illegally deposited them in to her own personal bank account.

At the time of the guilty plea, MCCLAINE had already paid back full restitution to the Association.

Financial Crimes Unit Bureau Chief Daniel Lynch prosecuted this case.
