Albany Man Pleads Guilty to Central Avenue







ALBANY, NY- District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that LEONARD SPENCE, 26, of Albany, pleaded guilty to (1) Count of Manslaughter in the First Degree, a Class B Violent Felony, before the Honorable Stephen Herrick in Albany County Court this afternoon.
On April 18, 2013 in the area of Central Avenue and King Avenue in the City of Albany, the defendant caused the death of Darzee Reid by shooting him with a gun. Reid was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after he arrived. 
The defendant fled the area and was located by U.S. Marshals on the Kentucky/Tennessee Border several weeks later. 
SPENCE faces up to 21 years in State Prison when sentenced on January 10, 2014. 
Bureau Chief Eric Galarneau of the Major Offense Unit is handling the prosecution of this case.
