Defendant Pleads Guilty to Cashing

 

Counterfeit Checks at Multiple Banks

 

 

 

 

 

ALBANY, NY- District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that RAKEEM CARTER, 36, pleaded guilty to (1) Count of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the Second Degree, a Class E Felony, before the Honorable Stephen Herrick in Albany County Court this morning.

 
On August 22, 2013, CARTER cashed two counterfeit checks, one in the amount of $3,842.09 and one in the amount of $2,952.66. The defendant cashed these counterfeit checks at NBT Bank in the Town of Colonie and Citizens Bank in the Town of Guilderland.
 
CARTER faces 1 to 3 years in State Prison when sentenced on November 26, 2013. The defendant must also pay restitution to each bank, $3,842.09 to NBT Bank and $2,952.66 to Citizens Bank.
 
Assistant District Attorney Benjamin Clark of the Financial Crimes Unit is handling the prosecution of this case.
