Rev. John U. Miller, Jr., "Father John"

The late Rev. John U. Miller Jr., “Father John”, served as Reverend at the Evangelical Protestant United Church of Christ for many years until his death in 2010. Reverend Miller was also the Executive Director of the Capital Area Council of Churches and Chair of the Albany Gun Violence Task Force. He was a well-known presence in the Court systems of Albany, and beyond. He brought a commitment to social justice, an abiding concern for the “least, the lost, and the last,” and a welcoming, inclusive ministry to people of the South End neighborhood.

Reverend John U. Miller was instrumental in the Incarceration Prevention program, a local effort to keep non-violent offenders out of jail by offering alternatives such as treatment programs, drug court, anger management counseling, and community service. He dedicated himself to social justice and an abiding concern for the well-being of the community. It is through his memory that the Community Justice Outreach Center will continue to carry on his values and the efforts of his work.
