Arson Cases of Note

People v. Robert Ferullo: After getting into an argument with his spouse, Ferullo started a fire in their home that caused extensive damage.  He was sentenced on January 9, 2012 to 2 to 6 years in state prison.

People v. George Ellis: On October 22, 2010, workers who had no permission to be in the building were using a demo saw to remove sprinkler piping on the 9th floor of the Central Warehouse in Albany. A multi alarm fire broke out where the piping was removed, resulting in extensive spreading of fire in the cork insulation in the building. Our office has seen an increase in cases where “Urban Miners” will break into buildings to steal piping and other materials that can easily be sold to scrap yards. Ellis was sentenced to 1 2/3 to 5 years in state prison.

People v. VanZandt: In 2009 VanZandt broke into a house and set it on fire when the residents were away on vacation.  He also stole credit cards from the home and began using them to purchase IPADS, which led to his capture by Bethlehem Police.
