Office of the District Attorney P. David Soares Burglar Sentenced to 10 Years ALBANY, NY – Albany County District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that TAURUS WHITEHEAD of Albany, NY, was sentenced to 10 years in prison and 3 years post release supervision by the Honorable Stephen Herrick. In July, WHITEHEAD pled guilty to (1) count of Burglary in the Second Degree, a Class “C” Felony. “This defendant clearly had no problem breaking into homes even after being caught in the act, and was even willing to victimize a disabled woman who was unable to defend herself. I commend that woman for taking a stance and confronting this man, as well as the neighbor on Marion Avenue for calling the police. Because of the heroic actions of these two outstanding citizens, this criminal will spend the next ten years in prison,” commented DA Soares. On March 14, 2008 WHITEHEAD broke into the apartment of a disabled victim who WHITEHEAD knew was unable to get out of bed without assistance. When the victim woke up to find WHITEHEAD in the apartment, she had a conversation with him and was told he was there to fix the pipes. The victim asked WHITEHEAD to leave and subsequently discovered a broken kitchen window where he entered the apartment. Later that day, WHITEHEAD broke into a second house to steal TV’s and DVD’s. And on March 21, 2008, WHITEHEAD broke into a house on Marion Avenue leaving a co-defendant in the car as a lookout. A neighbor noticed the suspicious behavior and called the police. Upon arriving, officers saw several electronics items moved to the front door area and WHITEHEAD was found in the eaves of the attic area under insulation. Assistant District Attorney Shannon Corbitt handled the prosecution of this case. For further information, please contact Heather Streeter Orth. ###
