Office of the District Attorney P. David Soares Rapist Sentenced to 29 - 33 Years in Prison ALBANY , NY – Albany County District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that MARCUS BROWN, 23, of Albany, NY, was sentenced to a total of 29 to 33 years in prison and 5 years post release supervision. In August, BROWN was found guilty after trial of (1) count of Rape in the First Degree, a Class B Felony, and (2) counts of Rape in the Third Degree, a Class E Felony, in front of the Honorable Thomas A. Breslin. BROWN received 25 years in prison with 5 years post release supervision for first count of Rape in the First Degree and 2-4 years in prison for each count of Rape in the Third Degree. The sentences will run consecutively. On or about December 31, 2006, between 3:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., BROWN engaged in sexual intercourse with a female victim who was under the age of 13 at the time the incident took place. Additionally, in January and April 2006, BROWN, who at the time was 21 years or older, engaged in sexual intercourse with a female victim who was under the age of 17 at the time of said incidents occurring “While this is an instance where no length of time is sufficient enough to punish this offender, I hope that today has brought some closure to the victims and their families,” commented DA Soares. “Thanks to the courage of the victims, this dangerous man is now off our streets for a very long time.” ADA Christina Nolan of the Special Victims Unit handled the prosecution of this case.# # # For further information contact: Heather Streeter Orth
