Office of the District Attorney P. David Soares Peter Manns Pleads Guilty to Grand Larceny
ALBANY , NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that PETER MANNS, 60, of Albany, NY, plead guilty to (1) count of Grand Larceny in the 4 th Degree and (1) count of Offering a False Personal Income Tax Return for Filing. In accordance with the plea bargain, MANNS faces 1-3 years in prison, full restitution and must repay $13,000 in back taxes. The indictment alleges that between January 1, 2002 and November 30, 2004 , PETER MANNS stole $119,728.74 from parking lot receipts while employed as a security department manager at St. Peter’s Hospital. As a result of the theft, on April 15, 2004 and April 15, 2005 , MANNS filed personal tax returns with the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, knowing the returns contained false information which substantially understated his tax liability, with the intent to evade any taxes imposed. “I would like to thank the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance for their diligence and assistance in prosecuting this case,” commented DA Soares. “This defendant should have known better, he spent a career making arrests and holding people accountable for their actions. He will now be exposed to the other side of the criminal justice system. Financial crimes are not victimless and it is my hope that with the recent high profile cases involving significant prison sentences and financial restitution, it will detour others from committing these crimes.” ADA Sean Childs from the Financial Crimes Unit is handled the prosecution of this case. Sentencing for MANNS is scheduled for July 20, 2007 . ### For further information contact: Heather Streeter Orth
