Violent Street Robberies Land Teens in State Prison

ALBANY , NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that HASSAN W. RIDDICK, 16, of Colonie, NY, pled guilty to (1) count of Attempted Robbery in the Second Degree, a Class “D” Felony in front of the Honorable Stephen W. Herrick. RIDDICK will receive 5 years in prison and 3 years post release supervision when sentenced on May 15, 2009.

“This is a tragedy for both the victims and the families of these two defendants. Instead of watching these two young people head off to the prom or college, they will have to visit them behind bars during what should be the best years of their lives. I hope this swift and tough prosecution sends a message to those thinking of engaging in this type of behavior that it will not be tolerated in this county. Our citizens should be able to live and work without the fear that they will be victimized on our streets, and I commend Bureau Chief Bruce Lennard for the expeditious manner in which these two criminals were held accountable for their egregious actions,” commented DA Soares.

On February 8, 2009, RIDDICK and 16-year-old co-defendant Keionna J. Hood of Schenectady ran up on a male victim, hit him in the head with a heavy, metal BB-Gun and attempted to rob him. When that victim had nothing to surrender, they ran up on two young women and hit one of them in the head with the pistol demanding her property. She had nothing to surrender, but her friend surrendered her purse and its contents. Hood was stopped by police shortly after the attacks and was found to be in possession of the victim’s iPod and bankbook. RIDDICK also made a phone call to the victim’s mother using the victim’s stolen phone, leaving a threatening message on her voicemail.

Hood confessed to the crimes and pled guilty to Attempted Robbery in the Second Degree, a Class “D” Felony, on March 6, 2009. In accordance with the terms of the plea bargain, Hood will receive no more than 6 years and no less than 4 years in prison when sentenced in April.

Major Offense Bureau Chief Bruce Lennard handled the prosecution of this case.
