ALBANY , NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that DEJON MOORE, 19, of Mt. Vernon, NY, was sentenced to 7 years in prison and 3 years post release supervision, and KANSINYA LEWIS, 21, of Albany, NY, was sentenced to 1 year in jail by the Honorable Stephen W. Herrick.

In February, MOORE was found guilty after a jury trial of (1) count of Reckless Assault of a Child, a Class “D” Felony, and LEWIS was found guilty of (1) count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a Class “A” Misdemeanor in front of the Honorable Stephen Herrick.

Between September 15 and 16, 2007 in the City of Cohoes, MOORE shook his girlfriend’s 11-month-old daughter because she would not stop crying. The baby suffered serious physical injury including subdural hematomas, retinal hemorrhaging, mental and visual impairment along with other injuries. LEWIS failed to seek medical treatment when the child displayed signs of injury. The child is currently in foster care.
