Troy Man Receives Max for Leaving Friend on Side of Road After Fatal Accident

ALBANY , NY –  District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that DARREN BIANCO, 36, of Troy, NY, was sentenced to the max of 2 1/3 to 7 years in prison by the Honorable Thomas Breslin. In January, BIANCO was found guilty after a jury trial of (1) count of Leaving the Scene of an Incident Without Reporting as a Felony, a Class “D” Felony.

“This terrible tragedy may have been avoided by one phone call. Instead, Mr. Bianco chose to ignore the fact that his friend was dying on the side of the road and ran from the scene to protect himself. This cowardly action has left a family to deal with consequences no family should have to endure. I hope the seven years he will spend in prison helps to bring about some closure to the friends and loved ones of Mr. Patterson,” commented DA Soares.

On October 18, 2007 at approximately 10:35 PM, on I-787 in the City of Watervliet, DARREN BIANCO and his friend William Floyd Patterson were involved in a crash while riding their motorcycles. The accident caused serious physical injury to Patterson, eventually leading to his death. BIANCO fled the scene and failed to stop or promptly report his involvement in the accident to authorities. BIANCO was apprehended approximately 12 hours after the crash.

Vehicular Crimes Bureau Chief Mary Tanner-Richter prosecuted this case.
