Office of the District Attorney P. David Soares Colonie Teen Arraigned for February Robberies, Co-Defendant Pleads Guilty ALBANY , NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that HASSAN W. RIDDICK, 16, of Colonie, NY, was arraigned on (2) counts of Robbery in the Second Degree, a Class “C” Felony, (4) counts of Attempted Robbery in the Second Degree, a Class “ D” Felony and (2) counts of Assault in the Second Degree, a Class “D” Felony in front of the Honorable Stephen W. Herrick. “As the economy worsens, crimes of opportunity like the robberies committed by these two teens will continue to rise. Our residents should be aware of this threat and take precautions when walking the streets at night. I hope the swift prosecution of these two criminals sends a clear message that we will not tolerate this type of behavior in Albany County, especially by those who come to the City of Albany to prey upon its residents,” commented DA Soares. The indictment alleges that on February 8, 2009, RIDDICK and 16-year-old co-defendant Keionna J. Hood of Schenectady ran up on a male victim, hit him in the head with a heavy, metal BB-Gun and attempted to rob him. When that victim had nothing to surrender, they ran up on two young women and hit one of them in the head with the pistol demanding her property. She had nothing to surrender, but her friend surrendered her purse and its contents. Hood was stopped by police shortly after the attacks and was found to be in possession of the victim’s iPod and bankbook. Hood confessed to the crimes and pled guilty to Attempted Robbery in the Second Degree, a Class “D” Felony, on March 6, 2009. In accordance with the terms of the plea bargain, Hood will receive no more than 6 years and no less than 4 years in prison when sentenced in April. Major Offense Bureau Chief Bruce Lennard is handling the prosecution of this case. ### For further information contact: Heather Streeter Orth
