14-Year-Old Found Guilty of Rape

ALBANY , NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that the 14-year-old co-defendant of Rakim Baker, 18, of Albany, NY was found guilty after a bench trial of (1) count of Rape in the 1 st Degree before the Honorable Thomas Breslin. The young man faces a minimum of 1 to 3 years and a maximum of 3 ½ to 10 years in prison.

“The three young men involved in this horrific crime violated and tortured this young woman. It is troubling that this defendant committed such a violent crime at such a young age and I am very pleased this dangerous sexual predator now faces serious prison time,” commented DA Soares.

On November 15, 2006 , at approximately 10:00 a.m. at 533 Third Street in Albany , NY , Rakim Baker, along with two co-defendants under the age of 15, lured a fourteen-year-old girl into the home of one of the co-defendants. Rakim Baker raped the victim after the others beat her, cut her hair with a pair of clippers and cut off all of her clothing. The victim then went to the home of a neighbor and the defendants were apprehended on foot by police officers in the area.

Rakim Baker plead guilty to (1) count of Attempted Rape in the 1 st Degree before the Honorable Thomas Breslin on May 2, 2007 . Sentencing for Baker is scheduled for Wednesday, June 27, 2007 .

Sentencing for this defendant is scheduled for Tuesday, August 21, 2007 .
