Statement from DA Soares
ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares made the following statement this morning in response to the allegations made against an Albany Police Detective:
- The name of an Albany Detective appeared on a list of people who had received packages from Signature Pharmacy during our investigation of ‘Operation Which Doctor’.
- We have confirmed that at least one of these packages did contain both steroids and human growth hormone (HGH).
- We made the Albany Police Department aware that the name of a member of their Department appeared in our investigation, and we have kept them aware of all subsequent developments.
In regards to the case in question, we have exceeded our obligation to turn over any evidence or materials that may be favorable to the defense.
- The prosecution has an obligation to turn over any evidence or materials that may be favorable to the defense before trial.
- We turned over the information to the defense before a trial has even been scheduled.
The steroids investigation is not related to this case, and has no bearing on the guilt or innocence of these defendants outside of the collateral impact it may have on issues of witness credibility.
