Four Albany Men Face a Combined 31 Years for Pine Hills Robberies

ALBANY , NY - District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that Taliem Smalls, 21, Duvall Munroe, 27, Latif Owens, 18, and El-Shallah Merritt, 20, all of Albany, NY, pled guilty to (1) count of Robbery in the Second Degree, a Class “C ” Felony.

Between 10:30 PM and 10:46 PM on October 14, 2008, SMALLS, MUNROE, OWENS and MERRITT robbed two SUNY students on Hudson Avenue and a state worker on Willett Street of credit cards, money, cell phones and other personal property. In both instances, the victims were forced to the ground, punched in the head and face, and threatened with what appeared to be a pistol.

In accordance with the terms of the plea bargain, SMALLS and MUNROE face up to 7 years in prison. OWENS and MERRITT face up to 8 ½ years in prison. All four are expected to be sentenced on March.

Assistant District Attorney Bradley Sherman of the Major Offense Unit is handling the prosecution of this case.
