Albany Man Sent to State Prison after DNA Recovered on Gun ALBANY , NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that KANAN TATRO, 21, of Albany, NY, was sentenced to 3 years in prison and 3 years post release supervision by the Honorable Stephen Herrick. TATRO pled guilty to Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree in November. On December 15, 2006 at about 1:00 A.M., Albany Police responded to a call for shots fired and witnessed a group of individuals disperse. Officers recovered a .38 caliber revolver that had been discarded which was loaded with 2 rounds and 3 spent casings. TATRO was stopped a short distance from the shooting and his clothing matched the description of the suspect. TATRO was brought to the station for questioning where he consented to a DNA swab. A DNA swab taken from the trigger of the gun match DNA taken from TATRO. Street Crime Bureau Chief Francisco Calderon handled the prosecution of this case.
