Couple Found Guilty in Assault of Baby

ALBANY , NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that DEJON MOORE, 19, of Mt. Vernon, NY, was found guilty after a jury trial of (1) count of Reckless Assault of a Child, a Class “D” Felony, and KANSINYA LEWIS, 21, of Albany, NY, was found guilty of (1) count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a Class “A” Misdemeanor in front of the Honorable Stephen Herrick.

MOORE faces up to 7 years in prison and LEWIS faces up to 1 year in jail when sentenced on March 24, 2009.

Between September 15 and 16, 2007 in the City of Cohoes, MOORE shook his girlfriend’s 11-month-old daughter because she would not stop crying. The baby suffered serious physical injury including subdural hematomas, retinal hemorrhaging, mental and visual impairment along with other injuries. LEWIS failed to seek medical treatment when the child displayed signs of injury. The child is currently in foster care.

Assistant District Attorney Shannon Sarfoh of the Special Victims Unit handled the prosecution of this case.
