Lisa Shutter Found Guilty of Making False Allegations Against Albany Police Officers

ALBANY , NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that LISA SHUTTER, 29, of Ravena, NY, was found guilty after a jury trial of (4) counts of Making a Punishable False Written Statement, a Class “A” Misdemeanor, in front of the Honorable Thomas A. Breslin. SHUTTER faces up to 2 years in jail when sentenced in April.

“I would like to thank the jury for their service and hope this guilty verdict can help to restore faith in the dedicated men and women of law enforcement in Albany County. I would also like to commend Bureau Chief Bruce Lennard and Assistant District Attorney Erin Reese for their diligence and professionalism during this complex case,” commented DA Soares. “During the course of the investigation surrounding very serious allegations made by Ms. Shutter against two members of the Albany Police Department, we began to uncover inconsistencies. Soon there were enough inconsistencies to create serious doubt upon the credibility of Ms. Shutter. Her allegations placed into question the integrity of two upstanding Police Officers whose work had never been called into question. My promise of One Standard of Justice for all citizens required the prosecution of Ms. Shutter when it became apparent that her claims were false. Officers Abrams and Fargione are deserving of the same Justice they assist in dispensing on behalf of the citizens of Albany everyday they report for duty.”

On December 24, 2007 at approximately 1:34 P.M. at the Office of Professional Standards of the Albany Police Department at 200 Henry Johnson Boulevard in the City of Albany, LISA SHUTTER knowingly made false statements, which she did not believe to be true, in a written instrument bearing a legally authorized form notice to the effect that false statements made therein are punishable.

Major Crimes Bureau Chief Bruce Lennard and Assistant District Attorney Erin Reese handled the prosecution of this case.
