Justin Walker Sentenced to 12 ½ Years for Robbery

ALBANY , NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that JUSTIN WALKER, 22, of 71 Westerlo St, Albany, NY was sentenced to 12 ½ years by the Honorable Stephen W. Herrick. On December 19, 2007, WALKER pled guilty to (1) count of Robbery in the First Degree, a Class “B” Felony.

On August 7, 2007, at approximately 5:20 AM, at the City Trading USA Store, located at 109 West Street, in the City of Albany, WALKER entered the convenience store and pointed a firearm at the store clerk. WALKER stated “Give me all the money,” and “You think it’s funny I’ll shoot you, open the register.” He then took around $466.00 out of the register. The clerk then grabbed the gun from WALKER who left the store, only to return seconds later. After a struggle with the store clerk, WALKER retrieved his gun, fled the scene and was later apprehended at his home on Westerlo Street after a brief standoff with Albany Police. The robbery was caught on store surveillance and subsequently broadcast on several entertainment shows and international news programs.

“Many programs have featured the video of this robbery but I want to make it very clear that to the store clerk and this office, the actions of this man were no laughing matter,” commented DA Soares. “I hope that today’s sentence reflects the severity with which armed robberies are treated in Albany County and sends a clear message to those considering engaging in similar behavior.”

ADA Kathleen Boland from the Major Offense Bureau handled the prosecution of this case.
