Office of the District Attorney P. David Soares 14-Year-Old Sentenced to 2½ to 7½ for Rape ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that the 14-year-old co-defendant of Rakim Baker, 18, of Albany, NY was sentenced to 2½ to 7½ years in prison. On June 25, 2007, the defendant was found guilty after a bench trial of (1) count of Rape in the 1 st Degree before the Honorable Thomas Breslin. The young man faced a minimum of 1 to 3 years and a maximum of 3 ½ to 10 years in prison. “The age of this defendant combined with the horrific nature of the crime committed against this young woman is appalling. Although no sentence can make up for the torture this woman was forced to endure, I hope this victim and her family will take some comfort in the fact that these boys will be locked up for many years to come,” commented DA Soares. On November 15, 2006, at approximately 10:00 a.m. at 533 Third Street in Albany, NY, Rakim Baker, along with two co-defendants under the age of 15, lured a fourteen-year-old girl into the home of one of the co-defendants. Rakim Baker raped the victim after the others beat her, cut her hair with a pair of clippers and cut off all of her clothing. The victim then went to the home of a neighbor and the defendants were apprehended on foot by police officers in the area. Rakim Baker plead guilty to (1) count of Attempted Rape in the 1 st Degree before the Honorable Thomas Breslin on May 2, 2007. Baker was sentenced to 13 years in prison and three years post release supervision. ADA Christina Nolan from the Special Victims Unit handled the prosecution of this case. ### For further information contact: Heather Streeter Orth
