Office of the District Attorney P. David Soares Bank Robber Sentenced to 7 Years ALBANY , NY – Albany County District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that AHMAD BURKE, 49, of 5 Pine St., Apt 4, Albany NY, was sentenced to 7 years in prison with 5 years post release supervision before the Honorable Thomas A. Breslin. BURKE pled guilty in May to (1) count of Robbery in the 2 nd Degree, a Class “C” Felony. On March 13, 2007 at the Citizen’s Bank at State and Pearl in the City of Albany, at about 1:00 P.M., BURKE robbed a teller of approximately $5,000.00 by threatening that he had a gun and holding his hand in a black bag which he placed on the counter in front of the teller. Thereafter, the defendant fled to his Pine Street Apartment building, and was spotted on the street before entering the building. Albany Police followed the defendant into the building, determined he was likely in his apartment, gained access to the apartment from a female occupant, and found BURKE locked in the bathroom where he was flushing the proceeds down the toilet. BURKE came out of the bathroom only after finishing his task. He was positively identified later on by two tellers. Police removed the toilet and recovered $2,220.00 from the trap in the commode. The rest of the money was not recovered. “Today’s sentencing will ensure that this criminal is unable to use fear and intimidation to threaten people in our community,” commented DA Soares. “By sending him to prison for seven years, the Albany County Judicial System has given Mr. Burke plenty of time to think about the crime he has committed and will hopefully deter others from following a similar path.” ADA Bruce Lennard of the Major Offense Unit handled the prosecution of the case. ### For further information contact: Heather Streeter Orth
